Eva Beckett was an accomplished amateur naturalist. She and her husband had moved to Fort William in 1927 and from 1935 to 1945 spent her summers in Churchill, Manitoba, with full-time residence there in 1946. She was acquainted with Claude Garton and would give her collected plant specimens from our region to the growing collection of Claude Garton.

Her collections of sub-arctic plants of Churchill have been deposited in several herbaria (such as University of Manitoba, National Museum of Canada) as well as at the Claude Garton Herbarium. The quality of her specimen preparation was of the highest standard.

Although her specimen sheets are integrated within this herbarium’s filing system, records can be searched for her collection.

It seems fitting that Eva Beckett’s middle name was “Flora”.
